For most undergrads and young professionals, choosing your first career is a daunting task. We’ve all been told to follow our passions and not settle – but what if you’re not sure what your passionate about yet?

The answer: that’s totally fine! Passions take time to develop and they often follow periods of dedication and skill building. If you’re not sure what career is right for you, we’ll work together to identify your strengths and areas of interest, match those to the right types of careers and help you create all the keys – resumes, cover letters, networking and interview tips –  to a successful job hunt.

Getting to Know You

  • Meeting Goals:Share your past experience, explore your future goals, analyze your strengths and weaknesses, and map out a path forward.
  • Pre-Meeting:Send over your current resume and results from a personality test that will be provided to you a week before our first meeting.
  • During Meeting:We'll discuss your academic and career history, what you've enjoyed and what you haven't, and what you hope to accomplish during our time together. We'll then dive into the results of your personality test and build out a clear understanding of your strengths and weaknesses -- results that will inform your next steps in personal branding.

Personal Branding

  • Meeting Goals:Finalize your career path vision and create a resume and LinkedIn profile that articulate your strengths and experience in the best possible light.
  • Pre-Meeting:Review the sample resume and LinkedIn profile I provide to you and create your first draft of each based upon these examples. Send over your drafts at least 24 hours in advance of our upcoming meeting.
  • During Meeting:We'll ensure your career vision matches up with your strength/weakness analysis and your personal abilities. We'll then critique your new resume and LinkedIn profile as well as practice articulating your value proposition for employers. We will also ensure you understand why we've made each change so that in the future, you can keep your LinkedIn profile and resume up-to-date and professional.

Applications

  • Meeting Goals:Review a list of companies you're interested in and outline your cover letter or email intro strategy.
  • Pre-Meeting:Create a list of companies you're interested in and send over at least 24 hours prior to our meeting.
  • During Meeting:We'll review your list of companies, I will suggest others you may be interested in, and we will discuss how different types of applications would be used for each company. We will then draft a cover letter for a company of your choice that you can later use as a template for the remaining applications.

Networking

  • Meeting Goals:Identify family friends, mentors, and personal friends that may have contacts in your industry of interest. Learn best practices for reaching out to these and new contacts.
  • Pre-Meeting:Create list of of possible contacts that work in your industry of interest or may know people in an industry you're interested in.
  • During Meeting:We'll analyze your list of possible contacts and decide whom to reach out to and through what method you should do so. You will also learn how to make the best use of 'informational chats' and how to gain mentors and friends who are invested in your success.

Mock Interviews

  • Meeting Goals:Practice information, behavioral, and case interviews as needed to ensure you're prepared for upcoming job interviews.
  • Pre-Meeting:Prepare bullet point-style answers to a list of practice questions that will be provided to you.
  • During Meeting:We'll run through several mock interviews where you can practice articulating your answers in a meaningful and succinct manner.

Succeeding Once You're There

  • Meeting Goals:Understand general workplace etiquette (email, meetings, presentations) and how to set yourself up for success on the job. For more technical jobs (i.e. investment banking or consulting) we will also cover Excel practice resources you can use prior to Day 1.
  • Pre-Meeting:Describe the job you will be starting and what company you will be working for in an email sent over at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting.
  • During Meeting:We'll walk through email, meeting, and presentation etiquette as well as the best mentality and attitude to project to ensure you make a strong first impression at work.
